Overlooking the Bazaruto Archipelago and nearby Santa Carolina (Paradise) Island and is home to a rich history and many species of dolphin, turtle, the rare and endangered dugong or sea cow, whale sharks, manta rays and humpback whales.

Paradise Island (Santa Carolina)
Just 17 km offshore lies Santa Carolina, better known as Paradise Island — the smallest of the six islands in the Bazaruto Archipelago. Measuring 3 km by 0.5 km, it is a true rock island with deep channels, three pristine beaches, and coral reefs close to shore. Century‑old palm trees dot the landscape, adding to its timeless charm.
Paradise Island carries a fascinating history. Once a glamorous retreat in the 1950s and 60s, its hotel was famed for crayfish and oysters before being abandoned during Mozambique’s independence unrest. Today, the ruins of the hotel and chapel remain, offering a glimpse into the past alongside pristine beaches and coral reefs. Declared a national marine sanctuary, it is now a place to snorkel, sunbathe, and explore — truly a small piece of paradise.
The Bazaruto Archipelago
Stretching across luminous turquoise waters, the Bazaruto Archipelago is Mozambique’s premier marine reserve and one of the most ecologically rich regions in the Western Indian Ocean. Protected as a national park, it safeguards coral reefs, seagrass meadows, and habitats for rare and migratory species.
Guests may encounter dolphins bow‑riding alongside boats, turtles nesting on beaches, manta rays gliding through channels, whale sharks feeding offshore, and seasonal humpback whales breaching in the distance. The archipelago is also one of the last viable habitats for dugongs — gentle seagrass‑grazing marine mammals found in only a handful of places worldwide.
